The full season tally now sits at 117-14 (.893)

The 2026 state tournament has concluded. Across two divisions of Idaho high school tennis on May 15, our six Club Tennis captains combined for sixteen state-tournament wins and built one of the most memorable single days of the season. Heidi McMillan and Savah Marsh went 4-0. Colton Symes and Tyler Osborne kept their perfect record alive. Ryan Emerson and Ellis Brown also went 4-0. Three captain teams went unbeaten at state on the same afternoon.

The full season tally now sits at 117-14 (.893).

This Week's Highlights

Heidi McMillan -- Boise (22-2, +4-0 at state)

Heidi finished state the way she finished district -- undefeated. The Savah Marsh partnership now has thirteen straight wins, including a 6-0, 6-0 demolition of Thunder Ridge, a 6-0, 6-1 win over Borah, a 6-2, 6-0 over Madison, and a 6-3, 6-3 closer against Boise's Kennedy Dunn and Henry Andrews. Twenty-two wins, two losses, and a doubles TRPR that climbed to 15.0. Heidi significant wins in both singles (7-1) and doubles (15-1) -- the most versatile season any captain has put together in 2026.

Colton Symes -- Eagle (18-0, +4-0 at state)

Eighteen matches. Zero losses. Colton and Tyler Osborne walked into the 6A state tournament with a target on their back and walked out the same way they came in -- undefeated. They beat Madison 6-0, 6-3, dismissed Boise 6-1, 6-0, rolled past Post Falls 6-1, 6-0, and then survived the only real test of their entire season: a 2-6, 6-4, 6-2 three-set battle with Highland's Cody Christensen and Kasey Carter that finally pushed them. They closed it out. Colton's doubles TRPR jumped to 16.0, the highest mark of any captain we track. A perfect 18-0 season at the highest level of Idaho high school tennis.

Ryan Emerson -- Bishop Kelly (21-1, +4-0 at state)

Ryan and Ellis Brown delivered the most balanced state run of any captain. Four wins, zero losses, and a moment that defines a postseason -- back-to-back tiebreakers against Wood River's Ballard Griswold and Luca Finegan, 7-6 (4), 7-6 (3). That kind of result tells you everything about how this pair handles pressure. They added a 6-2, 6-0 over Pocatello, a 6-0, 6-3 over Idaho Falls, and capped it with a 4-6, 7-6 (3), 6-1 comeback over Century. Ryan's doubles TRPR surged to 15.2 -- second only to Colton on the entire captain list. Twenty-one wins and one loss. The most complete season of any 5A captain.

Sofia Guzman -- Bishop Kelly (20-3, +3-1 at state)

Sofia and Will Guzman crossed twenty wins for the season at state. They beat Twin Falls 6-1, 6-1, took down Skyline 6-3, 6-1, and dismissed Century 6-1, 6-0 -- but then dropped a tight 6-3, 7-6 (5) decision to their own teammates Luke Perko and Lauren Mallory. Doubles TRPR settled at 15.0, tied with Heidi for third on the captain board.

Gabbi Molen -- Middleton (24-5, +1-2 at state)

Gabbi and Ryan Anderson opened with a strong 6-0, 6-1 win over Wood River, but then dropped two -- a 6-3, 6-0 result against Century's Nate Romriell and Skyler Gates, followed by a heartbreaker against Lewiston's Alexis Keller and Treyton Burke (6-3, 2-6, 10-5). Twenty-four wins is still more than any captain in the group, and the doubles TRPR settled at 14.1. Gabbi played more matches and accumulated more wins than anyone else on this list -- 29 matches in a single spring season, the busiest tennis calendar of any captain in 2026.

David Wang -- Bishop Kelly (12-3, no new matches)

David did not compete at the state tournament this week. His season tally holds at 12-3 with a 10-3 singles record and a 2-0 doubles record. His TRPR settled at 12.3 singles / 11.5 doubles. A solid season as a Club Tennis captain.

What We Watched

  • Heidi's thirteen-match streak -- The McMillan/Marsh partnership hasn't lost. Thirteen consecutive wins, capped by a perfect state tournament. Heidi ends her high-school career with a state mixed state championship and doubles state championship.
  • Colton Symes finishes 18-0 -- Eagle's top doubles team didn't drop a single match all spring, took the only real test that came their way at state, and finished with the highest doubles rating on the captain board (16.0). Colton ends his high-school career also with a state mixed championship and doubles state championship.
  • Sofia had an incredible high school career with one state championship (girls doubles) and three state finals appearances. Her only loss in mixed this year was to Luke Perko and Lauren Mallory. Sofia's only blemishes have all come from inside Bishop Kelly's own depth chart.
  • David had an excellent year just missing out of state championships by a single tie-break. He had an excellent season with a 12-3 record. David will be heading to UC Irvine and majoring in sports management.
  • Gabbi crosses 24 wins -- The captain win leader closes the regular season at 24 victories. Nobody on this list played more matches or did more for their school's depth than Gabbi did this spring. Gabbi will be back next season to lead Middleton High School as they move up to 6A.
  • Ryan Emerson and Ellis Brown at state -- Two tiebreak wins on the same day, four matches won, a comeback after dropping a set against Century. This is the kind of pressure performance that builds a reputation. Ryan will be back as a senior next year at Bishop Kelly High school to see if he can add to his state championship and two state finals appearances.

The 2026 season is over. Six captains, 117 wins, and a state tournament that delivered everything we wanted to see.
