The High School Tennis Season Is Here

Meet the six captains we'll be following from first practice to State

Practices have officially started. As of Friday, February 27th, courts across the Treasure Valley are buzzing with the sound of rackets and fresh energy — the 2026 high school tennis season is underway.

Here at Club Tennis, we've had the privilege of working with some of the best young players in the Boise area. This season, we're doing something special: we're following our six standout captains throughout the entire high school season — from first practice to the final point at State.

These aren't just talented players. They're leaders, mentors, and the heartbeat of their teams. Over the coming weeks and months, we'll bring you updates on their matches, their challenges, their growth, and the moments that make high school tennis unforgettable.

Meet the Captains We're Following This Season

Sofia Guzman — Bishop Kelly High School | Senior

Sofia has been on the court since she was 8 years old, and her resume speaks for itself — she's a state champion in doubles but for Sofia, tennis has always been about more than trophies — it's the friendships, connections, and sense of community the sport brings.

Heidi McMillan — Boise High School | Senior

Ten years of tennis has built Heidi into one of the most accomplished players in the valley. She won a state championship in girls doubles without dropping a single game — a dominant performance that followed a runner-up finish the year before and a 4th-place mixed doubles result as a freshman.

Gabbi Molen — Middleton High School | Junior

Gabbi brings over six years of competitive tennis experience and a fierce love for the mental and strategic side of the game. She's competed at the State Tournament in both singles and mixed doubles, and she moved to the Boise area from Montana about a year ago — quickly making her mark.

Ryan Emberson — Bishop Kelly High School | Junior

Ryan has been playing for about six years and has already reached the state finals in mixed doubles, earning a spot at the top of Bishop Kelly's varsity lineup. Known for his energy and leadership on the court, Ryan is the kind of player who elevates everyone around him.

Colton Symes — Eagle High School | Senior

Twelve years on the court have shaped Colton into a player with serious credentials — he's a state champion in mixed doubles, winning the title without dropping a set. He also placed 2nd in boys doubles during both his freshman and sophomore years. Colton has committed to play at George Fox University in Oregon.

David Wang — Bishop Kelly High School | Senior

David's tennis journey is unlike any other captain's — he picked up a racket less than two years ago. Since then, he's gone from the practice squad to earning a varsity spot during his junior year, proving that determination and hustle can close any gap. Beyond the court, David co-founded EmpowerPlay, a nonprofit that connects people through sports.

What's Coming Next

This is just the beginning. Throughout the 2026 season, we'll be publishing regular updates on these captains — how their teams are shaping up, key matches, turning points, and the stories behind the scores. Think of it as your inside look at high school tennis in the Treasure Valley.

Stay tuned — and if you see these captains on the court, let them know you're following along.
